In 2016, the situation in the Idomeni refugee camp in Greece was catastrophic. The refugee crisis was at a sad peak. Our contact person on site was Bishop Meletiadis Meletis from the Greek Protestant Church in Neos Miliotopos. He cared for about 16,000 people there with a team of volunteers, almost half of them children. Rainwear and shoes were particularly urgently needed. A transport of the German Clothing Foundation started directly after Easter 2016 to Greece.
"More and more people are falling ill," said Bishop Meletiadis Meletis. The nearby hospital in Kilkis was completely overcrowded, he said. About 16,000 people were staying in the assisted camps in Idomeni, Cherso and Diavata, he said. Textiles and shoes of all kinds and sizes were distributed in the camps.
