Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the district of Helmstedt has been a place of refuge for more than 800 Ukrainian refugees. In our Zweimalschön charity store, we enable refugees to buy clothes for free. We want to create a little distraction and "normal" everyday life for the innocent people in need. With the free initial equipment, those affected can choose and browse through their clothes independently and in peace. It is very important to the German Clothing Foundation to support people with warmth and dignity.
Together with the Made in Berlin e.V. initiative, consisting of Berlin craftsmen and suppliers of building materials, we helped in the Ahr valley. We mainly supplied nonwovens made from textile remnants, which were essential for the renovation and reconstruction of the houses. Clothing was also distributed via the temporary building materials warehouse in Altenburg. Here we were able to hand out good first- and second-hand clothes to the people of Altenburg, which we had received as donations due to business closures during the coronavirus pandemic.

Thanks to a trusting and long-standing cooperation with the employment agency and the Helmstedt job center, the Deutsche Kleiderstiftung is a partner of various support programs. This enables us to get to know and train people who have been unable to work for a long time. The aim is to offer our colleagues a permanent job at the end of the support phase. We are very pleased about the cooperation with the job center and are proud that we have already been able to offer many employees a permanent job with us.
More than 60 full-time employees and around 120 volunteers work for the Kleiderstiftung. In close cooperation with the job center, the German Clothing Foundation in Helmstedt takes on a work-integrative mission, employing and qualifying long-term unemployed people. This offer is important for people with a migration background, women who would like to return to the job market after a long break and similar groups in order to gradually regain a foothold in the world of work. The organization creates sustainable prospects for social participation, for example through driver training. The foundation enables people to obtain truck driving licenses or the necessary upgrades to the driver's class in order to significantly increase their employment opportunities and general chances on the job market.
In the charity stores in Berlin, Braunschweig, Halle/Saale, Helmstedt, Hildesheim and Magdeburg, participation is also created through various employment models. Part-time jobs make it possible to combine work and family, while mini-jobs create either entry-level opportunities or additional income. Voluntary work also comes into play. Volunteering combines meaningful activity, community and the certainty of doing something good.
We offer internships at our headquarters and in our stores for young professionals, students and international Erasmus scholarship holders.
Every 14 days, the German Clothing Foundation delivers clothes to the station mission in Magdeburg. Here, homeless people can equip themselves with new textiles free of charge. Thanks to the close contact between us and those responsible at the station mission, we can adapt our deliveries as required. This ensures that the textiles are really needed and are put to good use.
