The majority of Ukrainians have fled to neighboring Poland. Most of the people fleeing the war did not take much with them on their unwanted journey. The clothes and shoes they wore to flee are worn out and often damaged - people tell us about long walks. In close consultation with the local Caritas organization, we were able to bring a delivery of clothing donations in very good condition to the Slaskie region at the end of March 2022.
After the devastating flood disaster in September 2024, the damage in southern Poland is enormous. However, the clean-up work got underway quickly and the clothing foundation was able to load an aid shipment at short notice and send it on its way. With textiles, shoes, household linen and mattresses, it brought warmth and dignity to the people affected.
Together with the Ewangelicko Augsburska church, we supported a community center in Szczyrk. Here, unaccompanied children and families separated by the war find shelter. The German Clothing Foundation was able to support this fantastic project with clothing and children's toys in March 2022. During the delivery on site, we realized that financial support was also urgently needed. This enabled us to provide the schoolchildren with a warm lunch over a longer period of time.
In Poland, too, Diakonie stands for help, support, care and assistance for people on the margins of society. In Wroclaw, for example, the Ewangelickie Centrum Diakonii i Edukacji looks after children and young people in children's homes and boarding schools. The German Clothing Foundation brought clothes and more to them and other people in need. In 2011, we supplied a children's home run by the Protestant Diaconia Ewangelickie Centrum Diakonii i Edukacji with good first- and second-hand clothes. Our volunteer helper, who was on the transport, was still under the impression of the experiences on site after his return. "Can you imagine how bright their eyes were? You never forget something like that!"
