What should I do if I don't receive a shipping label after payment?

What should I do if I'm asked to open a PayPal account?

Unfortunately, even if you pay by credit card, you may be prompted to open a PayPal account during the shipping label creation process. This is caused by a checkbox that is selected by default, over which we have no control. You must click the button next to the text “Save details and open a PayPal account” to deselect it. It’s annoying, but unfortunately we can’t disable it.

What can I do if I don't have a printer?

If you’d like to send us a package of donated clothing but don’t have a printer to print the shipping label, you can still create the label. It includes a QR code. You can show this code directly at a DHL or GLS location using your smartphone, and the staff will print the shipping labels for you on the spot.

What happens to my donations?

All packages arrive at our warehouse in Helmstedt. There, the packages are unloaded, opened, and sorted by hand. We have various aid projects with different needs. Therefore, the donations are allocated to the individual projects. Anything that is not allocated to an aid project can be offered for sale in our charity shops to fund our work, or sold to secondhand clothing recycling companies we have vetted, in compliance with the ethical standards of FairWertung e.V. In addition, we are committed to a successful circular economy and support upcycling initiatives that create new products from the donations we receive, such as MOOT (www.moot.eco), whose products we also offer in our shops. However, we do not engage in recycling. Therefore, we do not collect broken, soiled, or worn-out clothing, nor do we accept textile scraps.

What kinds of items can be donated?

  • Lebensmittel, Spielzeug, Windeln
  • medizinische Geräte, Verbandsmaterial, Hygieneartikel
  • abgetragene Schuhe, Gummistiefel, Inlineskates und Schlittschuhe
  • Kissen, Bettdecken, Stuhlauflagen etc.,
  • Brillen, Bürsten, Seifenartikel, Kleiderbügel
  • Reisetaschen und Schulranzen
  • Bücher

Does clothing have to be appropriate for the season?

You can donate clothing and shoes for any season at any time. Whether it’s canvas shoes or lined boots, a bikini or a down jacket, we gladly accept all items of clothing in good condition. Thanks to our logistics system, we are equipped to handle donations outside of peak seasons and can thus provide appropriate clothing donations worldwide at any time. We always have the capacity to store donations that are out of season, so no clothing or shoes need to be discarded simply because they aren’t currently needed.

Where can I drop off my package?

Here you can find our partners' drop-off locations near you:

https://www.dhl.de/de/privatkunden/pakete-versenden/pakete-abgeben/filiale.html

https://www.gls-pakete.de/gls-paketshops

In isolated cases, smaller shops in particular have refused packages, citing limited storage space. This is very regrettable, but unfortunately we cannot influence this situation or restrict the selection of links accordingly. Please note that we cannot arrange for packages to be picked up from your location.

What are the size and weight limits for a package containing donations?

A package may weigh up to 31.5 kg (DHL) or 40 kg (GLS) and have maximum dimensions of 60x60x120 cm. We ask that you pack large packages as full as possible. This helps make the shipping costs worthwhile. As a guide: A well-packed moving box weighs about 15 kg.

Can you pick up my clothing donations?

From time to time, donors are unable to take their packages to the post office or a parcel shop themselves. Unfortunately, our agreements with DHL or GLS do not include pickup services. This would incur additional costs that we, as a nonprofit organization, cannot afford. In principle, we were told that, for example, DHL drivers might take packages with them if they are delivering other shipments, but we cannot guarantee this. It would therefore be safer and great for us if you could find a way to drop off the items, perhaps through friends, family members, or neighbors.

How long is my shipping label valid?

There is an "expiration date" on the labels, but this applies only to the QR code that DHL would use to print the labels. This means that this service is available for only one month. Labels you print yourself do not expire; they can still be used weeks or months later.

Will I receive a donation receipt for my personal clothing donation?

Unfortunately, we are generally unable to issue donation receipts for private clothing donations. The requirements for doing so are very strict when it comes to clothing donations. For instance, the tax office requires detailed information on how the donation’s value was determined. This typically involves providing purchase receipts and an appraisal of the current market value. This process involves a significant amount of work, which we—like many other nonprofit organizations—are unable to handle.
